Research Photographers

Rinko Kawauchi is a Japanese born photographer. Graduating from Seian University of Art and Design in 1993, Kawauchi began her career in Commercial Photography, gradually moving on to being a fine arts photographer. Many describe her work as poetic as she focuses on the simplistic beauties of everyday life.

For example, this photograph was taken after a horrible cluster of natural disasters that hit Japan in March of 2011. Although there was an obvious tragedy, Kawauchi still found the simplistic beauty of the waters and the volcano. The emptiness of the beach creates a peaceful environment to view.

This image shows a couple kissing through the window of a train. This simple public display of affection is something you see daily. Although the people are not the main focus, their placement within the frame makes them stand out.

Dana Scruggs is a Brooklyn-based photographer and director. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, Scruggs was the first black female to shoot for ESPN's Body Issue and the cover for Rolling Stone Magazine. Scruggs launched her own magazine, SCRUGGS Magazine, in 2016 focusing on her vision of the male form.

This picture of famous comedian and actor Chris Rock was featured in a 2020 New York Times article where he spoke on former President Donald Trump, COVID-19, blackface, and season four of his show "Fargo". In this picture, you see Rock floating in a pool wearing a shirt with the definition of freedom. The relaxed and simple nature of the photo contrasts the deeper ideas behind it.

Born in 1934, Lee Friedlander is an American photographer known for his photographs of urban social landscapes. He worked with 35mm black and white film and has worked with jazz artists, featured in the September 1985 PlayBoy Magazine of Madonna. Throughout his career, he has been awarded several grants, awards, and exhibitions which just shows how amazing his work truly is.
This rather simple picture shows what could be the front yard of someone's home as well as the parade of officers walking down the street. Friedlander was able to capture both moments in one.
